MTV's 'Catfish' hooks younger viewers

TNT’s “Rizzoli & Isles” is off to a hot start in its fourth season, kicking things off Tuesday night with ratings surges over last year and standing as cable’s top summer series.

According to Nielsen, the Angie Harmon-Sasha Alexander crime drama averaged a 1.4/4 in adults 18-49, a 1.9/5 in adults 25-54 and 6.64 million viewers overall — up nearly 20% in all categories from last year. In both adults 25-54 and total viewers, that makes “Rizzoli” the No. 1 basic cable series telecast since TV’s summer season began on Memorial Day.

Following “Rizzoli,” the second season of Eric McCormack-fronted drama “Perception” averaged a 0.8/2 in 18-49, a 1.0/3 in 25-54 and 4.01 million viewers overall. It was down from its series premiere last summer (0.85 in 18-49, 5.60 million total viewers) when it bowed behind “The Closer.”

Compared to its first-season finale last September, “Perception” was up nearly 25% in adults 18-49 and 15% in total viewers.

Also on Tuesday, MTV’s “Catfish: The TV Show” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 2.50 million viewers overall) began its season as TV’s No. 1 show of the day in persons 12-34 while leading all of cable for the night in adults 18-34 (1.9/7) and key female demos.
