Trio of renewals arrive on the heels of TNT ordering a fourth run for 'Falling Skies'

TNT has handed new seasons to three of its top summer series.

Rizzoli & Isles” has been renewed for a fifth season after ranking as basic cable’s top series this summer. Drama averages 8.4 million viewers in L+7, an uptick from last season. “Major Crimes” received a third season, drawing 6.7 million in L+7. Finally, TNT renewed “Perception” for a third season.

All three programs ranked in basic cable’s top 10 summer dramas. Orders follow last month’s renewal of “Falling Skies” for a fourth season.

“TNT has had a terrific summer with four big hits that have drawn viewers with great storytelling, engaging characters and outstanding performances,” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “With the renewals of ‘Rizzoli & Isles,’ ‘Major Crimes,’ ‘Falling Skies’ and ‘Perception,’ TNT has built an incredibly strong arsenal of scripted series. And it’s only going to get stronger with the addition of Mob City and the return of Dallas this winter, not to mention the debuts of The Last Ship and Legends next summer.”

I love that TNT has renewed “Major Crimes,” “Perceptions,” “Rizzolli and Isles,” and “Falling Skies,” but there is still no word about “King and Maxwell.” This PI show has evolved into a pretty interesting narrative, with potential for a long-running series. The chemistry between Jon Tenney and Rebecca Romjin (please excuse my spelling) has become believable and thankfully NOT romantic. The character of Edgar is wonderful, and “Benny” is becoming interesting and fun as well. It would be a shame if TNT acted like the broadcast networks and deep-sixed a show with such potential. I look forward to reading that TNT renews K&M for a second year.
