TNT Renews ‘Dallas’ for Third Season

TNT Renews 'Dallas' Third Season

Drama saw boost in ratings towards end of second season

TNT will be heading back to “Dallas” for a third season.

Cabler has ordered 15 episodes of the rebooted drama and will bow the new season early next year.

“‘Dallas’ has built a passionately loyal following with its expertly woven storylines, clever twists and turns, and numerous outstanding performances by a cast that spans generations,” said Michael Wright, prexy and head of programming for TNT, TBS and TCM.

The show lost its iconic character, J.R. Ewing, with the death of Larry Hagman in November. Despite that Wright said, ” ‘Dallas’ has many more stories left to tell.”

Program, from Warner Horizon TV,  bowed strongly on the cabler during its frosh run in 2012, but experienced an initial dip in ratings during season two.  Ratings picked up towards the end, and averaged 3.8 million viewers in Live+7.

“Dallas” is created by David Jacobs and exec produced by Cynthia Cidre, Michael M. Robin and Robert Rovner.

I’m thrilled that we’re getting the 3rd season. I absolutely love this new Dallas as much as I loved the old Dallas. Thank you to the dedicated, loyal, viewers (my 16 y/o son) who tune in every week to watch. God Bless America !

  2. Wichita71 says:

Uh…WHY?! TNT just has NOTHING else going on, right? Why else would they renew this mediocre retread? Wow!

  3. TechFan says:

This new continuation of the original series has had unbelievable plot developments, like suggesting a state investigation of a methane rig explosion wouldn’t be accompanied by federal safety and Department of Homeland Security investigations (which would have uncovered fraud in the state investigation). Also, that two long-time oilmen like Bobby and J.R. didn’t know in advance Southfork and its mineral rights could be sold separately. But its most incredible notion is there are 2 billion barrels of oil under the Ewing ranch, making the family as wealthy as Carlos Slim, Bill Gates, and Warren Buffett–the three richest men in the world–combined. With over $180 billion in collateral, if you can believe that, in year 2 the family can’t pay off a $200 million loan. Those in charge of the show really need to come up with more “expertly woven storylines” than these in the next season.
