Spinoff will be planted in a spring episode of 'Supernatural'

The CW is planning a spinoff for “Supernatural,” and will seed the project in an episode of the long-running drama next spring.

From Warner Bros. TV, spinoff will explore the clashing hunter and monster cultures in Chicago. The planted episode will serve as a pilot and introduce new characters, which will anchor the spinoff.

CW employed a similar spinoff strategy with “The Originals,” a “Vampire Diaries” spinoff that was seeded in an episode of “TVD.” “The Originals” is slated to debut this fall.

“Supernatural,” created by Eric Kripke, is entering its ninth season on the CW.

With the extraordinary loyal fan base that is an attractive component of all that is “Supernarural”, it seems fitting to extend continued faith that Mr. Kripke, his writers, producers,, will bring to the audience an inspired new show.
My thought for their perusal would be to bring onboard Mr. Christian Kane, recent “Leverage” star & friend of Jensen’s. He can do anything, & his looks, musicality, & comedic flair would shine in this genre. Another perfect fit would be Julian McMahon, of “Nip/Tuck” & “Charmed”.
He’s already BEEN the Source (Of All Evil)! With JUST these two talents, all the ladies will tune in in several demographics…!

  2. Brandy says:

If a Spn spin off is being planned, then Kim Rhodes should be considered as Sheriff Jodi Mills. I would watch it for sure.

  3. Hold up…The Originals is grounded on well established characters from TVD. This so-called spinoff feels like a slap in the face of fans who want to see underused characters developed. Kim Rhodes, Sebastian Roche, Richard Speight, Rob Benedict, Matt Cohen and plenty more folks have characters with stories that haven’t been told. Tell those. Please. This spinoff already sounds like a mashup of Angel…and Dresden Diaries…and Occult Crimes Task-force. One was anchored with a long established character. Who remembers the other two? Taking bets now that they’ll aim the casting in the younger demo as well…

There’s a big and I think crucial difference between the to be seeded Supernatural spin off and The Originals. The Originals stars characters who were part of The Vampire Diaries’ cast for some time and were spun off due to their popularity. The Spn spin off is being created with new characters the writers hope will grab the audience in one episode. How often does that end well? It didn’t for Bones or House. I have little faith a purpose written seeded pilot will deliver either intriguing new characters and a new intriguing world or service Supernatural’s characters and world well. If I don’t like this upcoming episode in what it reveals about Sam and Dean, the characters I tune in for, there’s little chance I’ll like it for some new characters pushing them to the sideline.

I’d love to see Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes) on this spin off! Hunter who also works for the law enforcement would make an interesting character! Supernatural has bit of a bad reputation when it comes to female characters but here would be a lovely chance to fix that: spin off with a female lead! :D

  6. Kris says:

Jody Mills absolutely needs to be a regular in this, I would watch the hell out of that! Kim Rhodes is fantastic!

  7. Rose says:

Definitely want Kim Rhodes in the spin off. Sheriff Mills needs to be a regular in that spin off, no matter who the main cast is. Hell, make her a main character!!

  8. NRW says:

I agree with Aga! Sheriff Mills is strong and smart and cute and wonderful and I think a lot of people would really appreciate her presence on the spinoff show, as either a mentor or a hunter-in-training or just a plain old kickass sheriff! Kim Rhodes is splendid!

  9. Aga says:

This spin off needs a strong female lead and I think Jody Mills would be perfect for this role! She’s such a wonderful badass character! Also Kim Rhodes is a brilliant actress and all her adoring fans would be thrilled to see her back on SPN :)

  10. Michèle says:

I would love to see Sheriff Jody Mills as a regular on the spinoff. She is such an awesome character, Kim Rhodes is a great actor, and she is woefully underutilized on Supernatural. And a lot of fans are saying they’d love to see a strong female lead on the spinoff!

As long as it doesn’t mean Supernatural isn’t being replaced.
