The Americans

1980s-set spy drama returns to Wednesday 10 p.m. slot

The Cold War resumes Feb. 26 on FX with the season two bow of “The Americans.”

The Keri Russell-Matthew Rhys starrer will return to its Wednesday 10 p.m. berth in the first quarter, when FX will also have new episodes of “Justified” airing on Tuesdays.

“Americans” had a strong first season run last winter and earned a berth on the AFI’s top 10 TV series of 2013. The Amblin TV drama set in the early 1980s revolves around a pair of Soviet spies posing as a married couple in the Washington, D.C. area.

The series may have prompted a case of life imitating art as Russell and Rhys are rumored to be romantically linked off screen as well.

Production of the second season is now under way in Gotham. Creator Joe Weisberg exec produces with Joel Fields, Graham Yost, Daniel Sackheim and Amblin TV’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.

Noah Emmerich, Holly Taylor, Keidrich Sellati, Annet Mahendru, Alison Wright and Susan Misner also star.

In addition to “Americans” and “Justified,” FX’s will have fresh episodes of animated comedy “Archer” paired with the new toon “Chozen” airing during the first quarter.
