Showtime Renews ‘Nurse Jackie’ for Sixth Season

Edie Falco

Lionsgate TV half-hour starring Edie Falco has seen ratings momentum this year

Edie Falco is up for another shift on Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie.”

The half-hour dramedy about an ER nurse with addiction problems has been renewed for a sixth season by the pay cabler, which co-produces the series with Liongate TV.

The series is wrapping up a solid fifth season run this month, its first under the leadership of showrunner Clyde Phillips, who took the reins from creators Liz Brixius and Linda Wallem.

“This show is as sharp and compelling and entertaining as ever. I’m excited to get to see the next chapter in Jackie’s life,” Showtime entertainment prexy David Nevins said.

Per Showtime, “Nurse Jackie” has averaged 3.1 million viewers a week across all of its linear and VOD plays. That marks a 10% gain from season four.

In addition to Falco, series stars Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Dominic Fumusa, Anna Deavere Smith and Peter Facinelli.

Hooray for Showtime. This is a great ensemble cast. I love so many of the characters: Gloria, Zoe, Eddie, Coop, Kevin, et. al. Oftentimes when a show adds characters to an established cast, it does not work. Not with this show. Everyone fits beautifully. I have one big complaint – When the show ends, I always wonder how could it be over so soon. I have been recording the show, and, watching 2 back to back.
