“You will burn.”
Based on WGN America’s newly released teaser for its first original-scripted series, “Salem,” no one is getting out alive. The ominous footage shows that 17th-century Massachusetts would not – and did not – tolerate “witchcraft” of any kind.
These disturbing images are what the cabler was going for, though, as president and gm Matt Cherniss is out to make his network the next FX or AMC, which have successful dark-themed shows such as the former’s “American Horror Story: Coven.” Showtime is also riding the supernatural bandwagon with its show “Penny Dreadful.”
“Salem” stars Janet Montgomery as Mary Sibley, the city’s most powerful enchantress, and Shane West as John Alden, a hardened veteran who has a history with Mary. The show will bow this spring.
