Sal Masekela Join NBC's Winter Olympics

Veteran sports personality Sal Masekela will join NBC’s winter Olympics’ coverage, the network announced Tuesday. He will cover all aspects of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia for “The Olympic Zone,” NBC Sports Group’s 30-minute daily show for NBC affiliates.

“Sal will provide a unique voice and insight into the world of sports and entertainment,” said Jim Bell, exec producer of NBC Olympics. “His extensive action sports broadcast experience will offer a valuable perspective to Olympic viewers.”

Masekela, who joined NBC in 2012, serves as a host, commentator and producer for NBC’sRed Bull Signature Series.”

Masekela’s prior broadcast experience includes serving as host of the Winter and Summer X Games for 13 years on ESPN and ABC, as an NBA sideline reporter on ESPN and a red carpet correspondent for E! at the Academy Awards.

He is repped by CAA, ROAR, and lawyer Darren Trattner.

    This is just another piece of unfounded marketing hype on the part of NBC. If Sal Masakela is such a “Veteran Sports Personality,” then why the Hell have I never heard of him. Our society has been overrun by an army of false “personalities: manufactured by NBC and other media. These “personalities” are never were, wanna be’s who will never be and who will come and go as quickly as the flame from a short matchstick. True sports BROADCASTERS were those such as Curt Gowdy, Mel Allen, Vin Skully, and their colleagues.
