Show is based on the global phenom game
The cartoon shorts, available now as a sneak preview exclusively on Rovio’s dedicated blog, are due to bow March 11 at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, ahead of the launch on a range of platforms March 16.
Rovio spokesman Janos Honkonen told Variety the new weekly series would reveal more about the motives and methods of the nasty pigs and the clever ways the irritated flighty friends thwart them.
“What makes Bomb Bird so angry,” Honkonen said. “Why is the King Pig the King Pig? And are those mischievous piggies ever going to get hold of the eggs? It’s time to find out.”
Rovio released “Angry Birds,” a slingshot-puzzle game for the iPhone, in December 2009. It has since been downloaded more than 1 billion times.
