Producers Guild To Honor Chuck Lorre with Norman Lear Award

The Big Bang Theory Chuck Lorre

'Definition of an iconic comedy producer,' says PGA

Chuck Lorre will receive the 2014 Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television from the Producers Guild of America at the PGA Awards on Jan. 19.

Lorre is being honored for his work on such shows as “The Big Bang Theory,” “Two and a Half Men” and “Dharma and Greg” – “series that have impacted television on a level that we rarely see,” said PGA Awards co-chairs Lori McCreary and Michael De Luca in a statement.

“In a TV landscape that often feels saturated with homogenized, interchangeable series, his distinctive voice and commitment to vivid, one-of-a-kind characters have made him one of the true mainstays of our weekly television schedule,” McCreary and De Luca said. “Lorre is the definition of an iconic comedy producer, and we are so pleased to honor him this year.”

Said Lorre: “Norman Lear is a legend in this business and one of comedy’s true kings. I have to admit that I’ve been tongue-tied and starstruck just standing in the same room with him. Needless to say, being associated with his artistry, much less to be honored in his name, is both humbling and inspiring — and more than a little embarrassing. I’m deeply grateful to the Producers Guild for acknowledging my work in this extraordinary fashion.”

Past recipients of the Norman Lear Award include J.J. Abrams, Don Mischer, Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, Dick Wolf, Jerry Bruckheimer, John Wells, Lorne Michaels, Bud Yorkin, Carsey-Werner-Mandabach, David L. Wolper, Don Hewitt, Garry K. Marshall, Aaron Spelling, Steven Bochco, David E. Kelley, Mark Burnett and Lear.

Well Jim, I guess they deleted your first comment I replied to, so you posted again. Now, if what you say is true, just sue them. But instead of ranting angrily, say what they did, not threaten to kill them.

  2. Take a bow, Chuck Lorre: you’ve earned it!

  3. Jason says:

Meanwhile, Charlie Sheen is being honored by the “I’m a Big Celebrity no celebrity will touch so STILL have to pay for porn stars” STD society of America, the “Oops, that gun accidently went off and shot my girlfriend while we were in the same room” Heritage Society, and the “My ex-producers are Hitler but if you don’t kiss my A, I’ll get you fired cuz I’m a nice guy” Honor Guild. Priceless. Still Winning?

  4. Frank W says:

I really wish you could tell what it is you claim he did to you. I’ve had a minor experience with this (not with him), but it’s enough for me not to talk to anyone first about any project, but I can’t self finance everything I do.
