Noted public-media journalist to host "Inside Story"
Ray Suarez, a veteran correspondent for PBS NewsHour, will join cable-news outlet Al Jazeera America as host of its 5 p.m. program “Inside Story,” the Qatar-backed outlet said Monday. The hire shows the news network continuing to hire and staff up after its August debut, part of a new surge of staffing its executives promised last week.
Suarez’s first day hosting the program will be Monday, Nov. 11. The current host is Libby Casey, according to the network’s web site, a former host and producer for C-SPAN.
Suarez had been with PBS’ “NewsHour” from 1999 to 2013, most recently as its chief national correspondent. He hosted National Public Radio’s “Talk of the Nation” for six years before joining PBS. Suarez also spent seven years reporting for Chicago’s NBC-owned station WMAQ-TV. He has also served as a Los Angeles correspondent for CNN, a producer for the ABC Radio Network in New York and a reporter for CBS Radio in Rome.
“Ray has repeatedly proven that he can deliver compelling coverage of the most challenging news stories and events with objectivity and depth, punctuated by Ray’s own brand of thoughtful analysis. That’s exactly what ‘Inside Story’ is all about.” said Kate O’Brien. president of Al Jazeera America, in a prepared statement.
