Olympics Boost NBC Sports Emmy Noms

Olympics coverage rains down 14 nominations

NBC and its affiliated channels led all rivals with 58 nominations for the 34th annual Sports Emmy Awards.

The collected honors for ESPN’s operations were second behind NBC Sports Group with 43 noms for the Sports Emmys, which the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will hold May 7 at Frederick P. Rose Hall at Lincoln Center in New York.

Turner Sports, which includes TNT, TBS and NBA TV, was third with 27 while Fox Sports Media Group tied HBO Sports for fourth. Among individual networks, NBC was first with 36 noms.

NBC Sports Group’s tally was boosted by its coverage of last year’s Summer Olympics, which drew 14 nominations. Next in line for individual programs were “NBA on TNT” and HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel,” each with six noms.

Nominated for top play-by-play announcer were ABC’s Mike Breen, NBC’s Mike Emrick and Al Michaels and CBS’ Jim Nantz.
