NBC’s ‘Voice’ Hits Tuesday High But ‘Love’ Is Lost Behind It

NBC's 'Voice' Hits Tuesday High 'Love'

In its second week, dating show fumbles away more of its large lead-in from the music contest

It was another Tuesday of good and bad news for NBC, whose “The Voice” hit a season high but its new dating show “Ready for Love” again dropped off sharply despite facing repeats on CBS and Fox.

As the battle rounds continued on “The Voice,” the music contest averaged a big 4.5 rating/14 share in adults 18-49 and 13.8 million viewers overall, according to preliminary Nielsen estimates, up from last week’s 4.2 in the prelims (which grew to a season-best 4.4 on Tuesday). “The Voice” easily disposed of the competition, topping the combined demo averages of Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen” (1.9/6 in 18-49, 4.6 million viewers overall), CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles” airing at a special time (1.3/4 in 18-49, 9.2 million viewers overall) and ABC’s “Splash” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall).

That big number, though, was wasted on “Ready for Love,” which averaged a 1.3/4 in 18-49 and 3.4 million viewers overall from 9 to 11 p.m., down 13% (0.2) from its premiere (and likely more if it’s revised down in the nationals). By its final half-hour at 10:30 p.m., “Ready for Love” settled for a 1.0/3 in 18-49. NBC doesn’t have an obvious replacement for the timeslot, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the net make a move before the May sweep is over to take better advantage of its “Voice” lead-in.

Also on a short leash, perhaps, is ABC’s “Splash,” which has now declined among young adults with every week since its March 26 premiere and may not stay on Tuesday for much longer. The net has aired “Dancing With the Stars” recap shows in this hour over the years and could go in this direction for the sweep. Despite that weak lead-in, the “Dancing” results show at 9 p.m. (2.1/6 in 18-49, 12.5 million viewers overall) was up a bit from last week and finished a smidge ahead of an “NCIS” repeat airing at a special time (2.1/6 in 18-49, 12.3 million viewers overall).

The 10 p.m. drama battle was also competitive again between CBS’ “Golden Boy” (1.5/4 in 18-49, 7.9 million viewers overall) and ABC’s “Body of Proof” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 9.0 million viewers overall), with the former scoring points by matching its delivery of last week when it had a first-run “NCIS: Los Angeles” as a lead-in (which did a 2.7 demo score). “Body of Proof” also matched last week’s delivery and has now led the hour in total viewers for four straight weeks.

Fox followed up its second-place finish at 8 for “Hell’s Kitchen” with encores of “New Girl” (1.2/3 in 18-49, 2.4 million viewers overall) and “The Mindy Project” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 2.0 million viewers overall).

And at CW, “Hart of Dixie” remains a bright spot on the schedule (0.5/2 in 18-49, 1.3 million viewers overall), up a bit from last week in total viewers. It was followed by a repeat from last season’s “America’s Next Top Model” (0.2/1 in 18-49, 0.7 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 2.4/7; CBS, 1.6/5; ABC, Fox and Univision, 1.5/4; CW, 0.4/1.

In total viewers: CBS, 9.8 million; ABC, 8.9 million; NBC, 6.8 million; Univision, 3.6 million; Fox, 3.4 million; CW, 1.0 million.
