NBC orders pilot for ‘Ironside’ remake

Redo of NBC staple from 1960s and '70s penned by Michael Caleo

NBC has greenlit a pilot for a redo of the vintage police drama “Ironside.”

The Universal TV drama revolves around a tough detective who is relegated to a wheelchair after a shooting but continues to pursue difficult cases.

Rumor has it that Blair Underwood has been approached for the lead role played from 1967-75 by Raymond Burr, but the casting could not be confirmed.

Michael Caleo penned the new-model “Ironside” and will exec produce alongside Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and Jon Fox, and “House” vet David Semel. Teri Weinberg will also serve as executive producer through Yellow Brick Road.

The original series also aired on NBC.
