NBC dishes up ‘Food’ competish

Peacock announces another competish project for its reality slate

After greenlighting a home-makeover competition program with Nate Berkus on Monday, Peacock announced another competish project Tuesday for its reality slate — this time, focused on food.

From Electus, “Food Fighters” pits amateurs against pro chefs with Adam Richman set to host to series. In each episode, the amateurs, armed with only recipes for their signature dishes, will square off against each expert chef who will have to cook the same dish.

Food will be judged on a blind taste test conducted by a panel of culinary judges, and the amateur has a shot at winning a cash prize.

“‘Food Fighters’ combines compelling competition and game show fun with a delicious twist — giving everyday home cooks a once-in-a-lifetime chance to compete with world-class chefs,” said NBC alternative head Paul Telegdy. “Every true home cook has at least one signature dish. … This is a show that puts those recipes to the ultimate test and rewards the passion Americans bring to their home kitchens every day.”

ABC’s cooking competish show “The Taste” also uses a blind taste-test element throughout its season, thereby emphasizing meritocracy in the elimination process.

Richman added: “I’m beyond excited to be working with NBC and to be part of a show that gives the unsung heroes of culinary arts — the everyday home cookes — their chance to shine on the national stage, and have a chance at winning some serious, life-changing money.”

Ben Silverman, Chris Grant, Jimmy Fox and Tim Puntillo are exec producers of “Food Fighters” from Electus and Universal TV. Electus Intl. will distribute the series worldwide.
