MTV Renews ‘Awkward’ for Fourth Season with New Showrunners

Renewal follows the departure of 'Awkward's' creator from the series in June

After series creator and showrunner Lauren Iungerich exited the show in June, MTV has handed a fourth run to its scripted comedy “Awkward,” with new showrunners aboard.

Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler will now spearhead the Ashley Rickards-starrer, after logging time on programs including “90210’s” reboot, “Reba” and Tori Spelling’s reality show “So Notorious.”

“Awkward” bowed its third season on MTV in April, returning steady with just over 2 million viewers. MTV will roll out the second half of “Awkward’s” third run in October, and has slated season four for next year.
