After 10 years with Thunderbird Film, co-founder and prexy Michael Shepard is exiting the Vancouver-based TV production, distribution and rights management company to launch Mindset Television.
His shingle will develop and produce comedy, drama and factual entertainment for TV, giving Thunderbird a first look at projects for finance and distribution.
Shepard will continue to exec produce existing shows — including “Package Deal”?(Citytv) and “Mr. Young”?(YTV/Disney XD) — with Thunderbird co-founder and CEO Tim Gamble, who will add prexy to his titles.
Gamble has held senior exec positions in TV for over 30 years and is exec producer on the upcoming “Blade Runner” sequel.
Thunderbird also announced that Paul Sparkes, exec vice-chairman and co-founder of Difference Capital, has joined its board. He previously served as exec VP of corporate affairs at CTVglobemedia.
Thunderbird Films has a catalog of more than 500 hours of Canadian and U.S. TV content and recently set up a joint venture with Lionsgate Entertainment called Sea to Sky.
The deal was orchestrated by Lionsgate founder Frank Giustra, a major Thunderbird shareholder.
