Meredith Vieira Lands Syndicated Daytime Show

'The Meredith Vieira Show' slated for fall 2014

Meredith Vieira is heading back to daytime with “The Meredith Vieira Show,” a syndicated program to be produced and distributed by NBCUniversal Domestic TV Distribution. NBCU has slated the skein for fall 2014.

The daily, multi-seg show will be based in Gotham and taped on a set that resembles Vieira’s home. Hourlong program will feature huma- interest stories, lifestyle segments and sit-downs with celebs along with everyday people.

“All of us at NBCU are so excited about this new show with Meredith,” said Ted Harbert chairman of NBC Broadcasting. “She creates an instant connection with audiences with her smart, quick-witted and down-to-earth style. This entertaining and substantive show will be a great way to reach her loyal daytime fans as well as new ones who will discover why Meredith is one of America’s most loved television personalities.”

Vieira defined herself in the daytime space as one of the original co-hosts on ABC’s “The View” and co-anchor on NBC’s “Today,” alongside Matt Lauer. The journo is also no stranger to the syndie space, having hosted the syndicated version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” for over a decade, stepping down from her hosting duties late last year.

“As a journalist on ‘Today’ and ’60 Minutes,’ I learned how to really listen to people and help give them a voice. On ‘The View,’ I unleashed my own opinionated self and discovered the empowerment that comes with sometimes heated, but always respectful, discussion. And on ‘Millionaire,’ I relished the joy of changing people’s lives while having pure fun,” Vieira said. “All of these experiences, along with being a wife and mom, have led me here because they all share one common denominator… this fundamental need we have to connect with and find inspiration in each other.”

Vieira has maintained a reduced role with the Peacock since her tenure on “Today,” contributing to “Dateline” along with “Rock Center With Brian Williams.” She has also subbed in on “Today’s” fourth hour for Kathie Lee Gifford.

That’s fantastic. Here I was thinking she basically wanted to maybe scale back because she mentioned with Millionaire and the Today Show as she was leaving she stated that she was missing out on her kids and husband & really wanted to spend more time with them. She’s amazing because any show she does,The View,The Today show, Millionaire and her great interviews for NBC have all been successful. She did a fantastic 2 hour show for 20/20 about The Beatles that I taped back in the early Millennium. It had amazing footage and when I found it, this was before the dvd players, maybe it was 1998 or 99. I just know the dvd’s got really popular around ’04. Everyone had one by then. I transferred it over to the dvd & I’m glad I saved it because the footage was really amazing. I would watch her shows because she’s great on TV. Some people have that certain something that make them great with anyone from 5 year old prodigy’s to 100 year old perfectly healthy people. I love Suzanne Somers because her show on health and what we’ve learned from her interviewing all these amazing doctors has opened up conversation and the doors for every woman to talk about any and everything concerning health and good quality of life and basically having great health because people are living to be 100 or more now and it’s fascinating science. She sells books like crazy because she’s talking about health and how we should be living. If you had a billion dollars and your health was poor, it would be a moot point. You can’t enjoy anything without your health. She’s brought great attention to that. I love her show and hope it continues. As for Meredith, she’ll do excellent. I think she left the Today Show exactly at the right time. It’s not doing so well and CBS This Morning is an exellent show and took my attention and DVR right to them. They’re the best. You can’t get any better than Charlie Rose, Gayle King and Nora O’Donnell. They are an excellent news team. The perfect amount of people, a great set and it’s really excellent reporting. I was very impressed from the first day. These people have great chemistry and they’re mature and I don’t see anyone trying to one up the other. They’re all equally important. I used to and still do like GMA but it’s so confusing because there are so many people on there now. It’s a bit much. Meredith will do great and I can’t wait to see her show. She’ll definitely bring in a great vibe. She’s always been extremely professional. That’s what some news shows are lacking now a days. What happened? Glad to see she’s coming back..

Shane, It’s possible that three years was enough time off and now she and her family are ready to let her return, especially if her hours won’t be as terrible as having to get up at 4 AM.

I thought she left the ‘Today’ show to spend more time with her family…I guess ‘time with her family’ wasn’t the real reason after all if she’s already getting right back into the talk show ring again.
