He'll direct EuropaCorp's New York-based action dramedy series
The New York-set, English-language show will be penned and exec produced by “Brothers and Sisters” showrunner Stephen Tolkin.
Megaton has directed two Besson-produced blockbusters, “Taken 2” and “Transporter 3,” which grossed $376 million and $109 million worldwide, respectively.
“Brooklyn” is co-produced and commissioned by leading Gallic commercial net TF1, as part of its first-look deal with EuropaCorp Television.
The skein is inspired by Besson’s hit film trilogy “Taxi,” which grossed $196 million worldwide.
“Brooklyn” turns on a NYPD femme detective with a medical condition and her chauffeur, a French streetwise cab driver who emigrated from Marseille.
Lensing is skedded for the second half of the year in New York.
Repped internationally by EuropaCorp, the show has already been licenced in various countries, including Russia and Japan, where Besson’s pics traditionally perform strongly at the box office.
EuropaCorp Television has been a major source of growth and a driving force behind Besson’s company. The division, headed by Edouard de Vesinne and Thomas Anargyros, bowed in 2010 following the acquisition of indie producer Cipango.
