Fox's 'Family Guy' and 'American Dad' are the top series among younger viewers

A nearly hourlong overrun from The Masters boosted CBS on Sunday, as the golf action and above-average scores for “60 Minutes” and “Amazing Race” propelled the net to an easy primetime victory in key demos.

Final-round coverage of the 2013 Masters, which saw Australia’s Adam Scott win the coveted Green Jacket in an extra-holes playoff over Argentina’s Angel Cabrera, earned an average 10.0 household rating/21 share for its duration, according to Nielsen metered-market data — up 26% from last year’s 8.1/19. Action peaked in the 7 o’clock half-hour with a 13.4/25 in the metered markets.

Last year’s final round averaged about 13.5 million viewers.

Reliable demo and total-viewer numbers weren’t available for the primetime portion of the Masters, but the CBS stations averaged a 4.1/13 in adults 18-49 and 18 million viewers overall from 7 to 8. The net’s regular lineup of series then started nearly an hour late in most of the country, with “60 Minutes” averaging roughly a 2.4/7 in 18-49 and 12.1 million viewers overall in the 8 o’clock hour and “The Amazing Race” generating roughly a 2.0/5 in 18-49 and 9.6 million viewers overall in the 9 o’clock hour. From 10 to 11 p.m., which was mostly “The Good Wife,” the CBS stations averaged a 1.7/5 in 18-49 and 3.8 million viewers overall.

Elsewhere, Fox was runner-up in young adults, though its animated comedies were down from their most recent originals. A repeat “Bob’s Burgers” opened the night (0.7/2 in 18-49, 1.7 million viewers overall) and was followed by original episodes of “The Cleveland Show” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 2.4 million viewers overall), “The Simpsons” (1.8/5 in 18-49, 4.1 million viewers overall), “Bob’s Burgers” (1.6/4 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall), “Family Guy” (2.4/6 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall) and “American Dad” (2.0/5 in 18-49, 4.1 million viewers overall).

“Family Guy” was the night’s top series in younger categories, including 18-49, 18-34 (2.5/7) and teens (2.0/7).

NBC opened with a two-hour repeat of last Monday’s installment of “The Voice” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall), followed by “Celebrity Apprentice” (1.7/4 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall), which expanded to two hours and logged its best average in four weeks, rising about 20% above last week’s hourlong edition. “Apprentice” was the No. 1 broadcast program in young adults at 10 p.m. (1.8/5 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall).

ABC had a second straight quiet Sunday, posting its better numbers early with a repeat of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall) and a recap episode of “Once Upon a Time” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall). It didn’t do much from 9 to 11 p.m. with encores of “Revenge” (0.6/2 in 18-49, 2.7 million viewers overall) and “Red Widow” (0.5/1 in 18-49, 2.1 million viewers overall). “Once Upon a Time” returns next Sunday with the first of its final four original episodes of the season.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: CBS, 2.6/7; Fox, 1.6/5; NBC, 1.4/4; Univision, 0.9/3; ABC, 0.9/2.

In total viewers: CBS, 12.4 million; NBC, 4.5 million; ABC, 3.9 million; Fox, 3.5 million; Univision, 2.5 million.
