‘MasterChef,’ ‘America’s Got Talent’ Set Pace on Wednesday

Ratings: 'MasterChef,' 'America's Got Talent' Lead

Fox show leads in young adults, while the NBC veteran is the top broadcast in total viewers

A double-serving of “MasterChef” put Fox on top of its rivals in key demos on Wednesday, while NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” remained the night’s most popular broadcast series overall.

A&E’s “Duck Dynasty” again figured to be the night’s overall leader in young adults, last week doing a big 4.5 rating at 10 o’clock.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen for Wednesday, Fox’s “MasterChef” averaged a timeslot-leading 2.4 rating/7 share in adults 18-49 and 6.3 million viewers overall in its regular 9 p.m. timeslot — on par with last week in the demo and up in total viewers. Its extra original episode at 8 p.m. did a 2.0/7 in 18-49 and 5.3 million viewers overall, down from its most recent 8 o’clock performance but tied for the timeslot lead in 18-49.

NBC opened with a repeat of “America’s Got Talent” (1.3/5 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall), followed by an original live episode of the show (2.2/6 in 18-49, 9.7 million viewers overall), which was up slightly week to week and on par with the show’s performance of a year ago. Firstrun drama “Camp” held steady at 10 (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.5 million viewers overall).

At CBS, “Big Brother” (2.0/7 in 18-49, 6.3 million viewers overall) was perhaps affected by the extra “MasterChef” competition, coming in down about 10% week to week but still held tying for the timeslot lead in 18-49. Finishing up the night for CBS were repeats of “Criminal Minds” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall) and “CSI” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall).

ABC again lagged its rivals on the night with its lineup of repeat comedies “The Middle” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.5 million viewers overall at 8 p.m. and 0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall at 8:30), “Modern Family” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall) and “The Neighbors” (0.7/2 in 18-49, 2.4 million viewers overall) followed by a new episode of “The Lookout” (0.8/2 in 18-49, 3.3 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 2.2/7; NBC, 1.5/5; CBS and Univision, 1.3/4; ABC, 0.8/3; Telemundo, 0.5/2; CW, 0.3/1.

In total viewers: NBC, 6.4 million; Fox, 5.8 million; CBS, 5.5 million; Univision, 3.3 million; ABC, 3.2 million; Telemundo, 1.2 million; CW, 1.0 million.
