Made in Hollywood Awards Tackle TV

Kudos honor projects shot in and around Hollywood

The Made in Hollywood Awards, honoring Oscar-nominated feature films shot in and around Hollywood, will expand this year to include qualifying television shows in the Primetime Emmys’ nine production categories.

This year’s MIH Awards for television will be presented Aug. 15 at the Heart of Hollywood Terrace atop the 1600 Vine Building, on the site of the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant. Shows nominated for top comedy, drama, miniseries/movie, variety series, variety special, children’s program, informational series/special, reality program and reality competition program that were made in the Hollywood vicinity will be eligible.

“This award program honors filmmakers and production entities who elect to utilize the unlimited talent pool, the reservoir of unsurpassed crafts people and the world’s greatest complex of film production facilities and infrastructure that is Hollywood,” Los Angeles City Councilmember Tom LaBonge said. “Hollywood is the world capital of filmed entertainment because it remains the most concerted community of artistic and technical excellence. This is reflected in the fact that in the last two years the two nominated films made here (“The Artist” and “Argo”) prevailed among Oscar voters over all of the films made elsewhere in the world.”

“Argo” received its MIH award in February, shortly before winning the Oscar. It was shot from August to November 2011, spending an estimated $31 million on production in Los Angeles, and had qualified for the California Film & Television Tax Credit.

“”Los Angeles and California have to make an effort to counteract the financial carrots other states and nations are holding out to draw filmmaking away from its traditional home here. Hollywood’s century of greatness and the specialists who made their lives here to help that industry maintain its dominance are celebrated with these awards. That celebration will now extend to our local television production.”
