Katie Couric’s daytime talker “Katie” has been renewed for a second season by Disney-ABC Domestic Television.The renewal isn’t a surprise, because Disney-ABC initially struck two-year deals with stations. Since its premiere, “Katie” has led all first- and second-year daytime talkshows for 19 consecutive weeks in households and total viewers and ranks sixth among 18 talkshows in the syndicated market. Last week, buoyed by an interview with Manti Te’o, “Katie” improved 30% over its prior four-week average and led its timeslot in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia. The program has been renewed by existing stations in more than 95% of the country for the 2013-14 season. “Katie is an immensely talented host who has an incomparable ability to connect with her viewers,” Disney-ABC Domestic TV prexy Janice Marinelli said. “We also have outstanding station partners and time periods, and look forward to continued success with ‘Katie’ this year and into season two.” Couric exec produces the show with Michael Morrison.
