ITV Looks to Bid $134.5 Million for Scandi Shingle Nice

Other reported suitors include Sony and Time Warners

LONDON — Blighty’s ITV is looking to bank on the success of Scandinavian TV dramas such as “The Killing” and “Borgen” by reportedly considering a £90 million ($134.5 million) bid for Finland shingle Nice Entertainment.

The private broadcaster, which has been aggressively acquiring overseas companies in a bid to build its international content business, is said to be eyeing Helsinki-based Nice, which makes more than 100 drama and reality series per year, according to a report in the Sunday Times.

Nice’s programs include gritty “Nordic noir” dramas and reality shows such as “Celebrity Babysitter” and “Babes on the Bus.”

According to the Times, other media giants eyeing the Scandi shingle include FremantleMedia, the maker of “Britain’s Got Talent,” Sony and Time Warner.

The report also said Finnish investment firm Capman has hired Stella Advisors to auction the biz, which is expected to see profits increase by 35% to $12.8 million this year.

Recent ITV acquisitions include U.S. shingle Thinkfactory Media, which ITV paid $30 million for a 65% stake of the biz and High Noon Entertainment, for which ITV paid $39 million for a controlling stake.

In December, it acquired 61.5% of U.S. shingle Gurney Prods., best known for “Duck Dynasty.”
