HBO’s ‘Girls’ Draws 1.1 Mil for Three Airings of Season Finale

HBO's 'Girls' Draws 1.1 Mil Three

Though Sunday's ratings are down from last year, season average of show matches 2012

HBO’s “Girls” wrapped before a small gathering on Sunday night, though the pay cabler said that this season’s viewership on a weekly basis was on par with its inaugural run last spring.

According to Nielsen estimates, the first airing of “Girls” on Sunday averaged 632,000 viewers at 9 p.m. Sunday, with a 10 p.m. encore adding 311,000 and a second repeat at 11 p.m. drawing 187,000. The combined 1.13 million viewers was below the 1.53 million that watched two Sunday night airings of its first-season finale last June — though its conclusion last year aired following an episode of hit drama “True Blood.”

HBO said “Girls” averaged a gross audience of 4.6 million viewers per episode this season, when all linear plays, HBO On Demand/HBO Go and DVR playback are counted. That is identical to its first season.

According to the premium cabler, 27.4% of the gross audience for “Girls” comes from HBO On Demand and HBO GO, the highest proportion of viewing on those platforms among all current HBO series.
