HBO Adds Two Episodes 'Vice,' Sets

Newsmag to devote entire finale to Vice's trip to North Korea

As the political climate surrounding North Korea and its young, unpredictable leader Kim Jong-un remains dangerous and uncertain, HBO plans to devote the entire season finale of frosh newsmag “Vice” to its recent trip to the Hermit Kingdom with Dennis Rodman.

The U.S. government has distanced itself from “Vice” and the ex-basketball player’s foray to North Korea. Rodman plans to return to the country in August.

HBO has also expanded the current episode order for season one of “Vice” from eight to 10 editions. The season finale will air on June 14.

“Vice” debuted to so-so ratings on HBO in its Friday 11 p.m. time slot on April 5, but grew 78% in its second week, attracting almost a million viewers.

Program is exec produced by Bill Maher, Shane Smith and Eddy Moretti.

Sensationalizing a place where millions (yes millions) of people are suffering is not right. There are serious people trying to do good in the world. Then, there are media moguls looking to fatten their own coffers on the objectification of people’s SUFFERING. I cannot believe Mr. Smith cares one iota for the people he exploits but he is profiting hugely from this exploitation. If this is “news”, we’d be better off uninformed.

Love, love, love this new Vice show. Rodman is a crazyman,, so is Kim Jong Un, so I can only imagine where that season finale will head.

  4. Marty Stucky says:

I’ve always considered HBO to be the gold standard in TV programming, and Vice to be the gold standard of news documentaries so this really is a no brainer. I agree with everybody else, hopefully season two we’ll get hour long eps. The segments do feel a little short sometimes, but at least it inspires me to go the viceonhbo.com and learn more as opposed to potentially petering out and losing my interest.

  5. Scott B says:

Amazing! The first 2 episodes were great but too short. Just excited to get more footage. HBO – MAKE THIS SHOW 1 HR!

  6. Hampton C says:

This is going to be great. I feel like this would be even better if it was a full hour. This is some really good content, but needs to be longer to tell these untold stories. But at least someone is airing them!

  7. filmmargins says:

Next step: extend it to 1 hour per episode! Immersionist journalism at its best.

  8. Jacob Kogan says:

Yes, finally! I can’t wait to see this. All of the online documentaries about NK are so fascinating. Throw Dennis Rodman in the mix and who knows how ridiculous it could get.

  9. Art says:

SICK!!!! Game of Thrones, VICE, Veep.

HBO is killin’ it with the lineup.
