‘Golden Boy’ stays on Tuesday for CBS

After two previews, rookie drama displaces 'Vegas'

CBS is promoting “Golden Boy,” skedding the new cop drama to run regularly on Tuesdays, replacing “Vegas.”

“Golden Boy,” originally set to air at 9 p.m. Fridays starting this week, hasn’t been a great ratings performer in its two preview episodes at 10 on Tuesday; but “Vegas” really didn’t do any better, so the Eye must think there’s more upside for “Golden Boy.” “Vegas,” meanwhile is seen as a good fit with CBS’ Friday sked.

In its two shots on Tuesday, “Golden Boy” averaged a 1.7/5 rating in adults 18-49, a 2.6/7 in adults 25-54 and about 10 million viewers overall — beating the competing dramas on ABC and NBC both weeks.

“Golden Boy” will air on Friday this week as planned, and then air another original episode in its new regular 10 p.m. Tuesday time period four days later. “Vegas” begins its run on Fridays at 9 starting April 5, allowing CBS to promote the drama during its coverage of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

“Vegas” is replacing “CSI: NY” on Friday, and the net will judge its performance on its new night before deciding the show’s fate for next season. “CSI: NY” typically won its hour in total viewers but lagged ABC’s “Shark Tank” in demos.

“Golden Boy,” about an ambitious cop who rises to become the youngest police commissioner of New York City, will certainly have a shot to blossom Tuesdays at 10, one of the few weeknight hours where no show has dominated in recent years. It is home to ABC crimer “Body of Proof” and NBC’s Broadway-themed “Smash.”
