Pedro Pascal has previously been seen on 'The Good Wife'

In the first major casting news for season 4 of “Game of Thrones,” HBO has cast “The Good Wife” actor Pedro Pascal to play Prince Oberyn Martell.

According to the books, the character is nicknamed “the Red Viper” and comes to Kings Landing seeking revenge for the death of his sister who was murdered by the Hound’s brother Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane.

The interesting thing about this casting for fans of the show (SPOILER alert) is the hint that we may be seeing “The Mountain” again, who was last seen chopping the head off of a horse after he loses a jousting match to Ser Loras Tyrell. The character has not appeared again on this show but did play a pivotal part in the eventual downfall of Ned Stark.

Game of Thrones” begins production next month and the fourth season will premiere next spring.

Pascal is repped by Innovative Artists and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.

EW.com first broke the news of Pascal’s casting.

I hope they don’t dwell on the idea that he’s a bisexual in the show, it was briefly mentioned in the books. But seeing how they amplified Loras’ sexualilty in the show i can see them doing that with Oberyn. His character arch really doesn’t need it. He’s interesting enough as is. Also I hope they age him up a bit, he does have 8 daughters 4 which are grown women.

  2. Tall Tyrion lannister says:

Mountain was in a few episodes last season but yeah, different. Actor. I’m sure with make-up this new guy playing Oberyn will be convincing. That being said, season 3 didn’t do a good job casting Daario imo, nothing like how he’s described in books.

  3. Troublesome Birdsong says:

No, the last time we saw Gregor Clegane was when Tywin Lannister left him in charge of Harrenhal near the end of season 2. Granted he didn’t really say anything and was played by a different person, because Conan Stevens was off shooting ‘The Hobbit’, but the character was still there. Get your facts straight.

  4. The Kingslayer says:

Pedro is not really how I pictured The Red Viper at all.

  5. Kid says:

Also, it’s Sir Loras, not Lawrence. Jeez. JOURNALISM!

  6. Kid says:

Wrong, The Mountain appeared in two episodes in the 2nd Season, but the role was recast (a different actor played him than in the 1st Season).

I can’t wait till it starts been watching every session
