Award comes with development deal
Caise has signed a development deal with FX Networks in conjunction with Fox Broadcasting, and 20th Century Fox TV Studios. Caise, who was picked from 10 finalists in the program’s second year, will pitch an original script to FX. Fox will give a $15,000 grant to the NAACP Hollywood Bureau, which referred Caise, for its writing program.
The Fox Writers Intensive Program is designed to nurture writers from different backgrounds to create a pipeline of talent for Fox productions. Launched in 2011, the program this year has been expanded to include HarperCollins and Fox Film.
The finalists spent four months honing their craft and establishing connections with Fox branches. Administered by Film Independent the training included collaborative sessions with writers and producers such as Hart Hanson, Shintaro Shimosawa and Andre and Maria Jacquemetton.
“The program is a valuable tool for up-and-coming writers,” said Brett Baer and Dave Finkel, executive producers of “New Girl.” “We loved getting into it with people in the program and hearing ideas from the next generation of showrunners and staffers.”
