Fox 11 L.A. investigative reporter and producer Martin Burns died Sunday in a hiking accident near Altadena, the mountainous neighborhood just north of Pasadena, Calif. He was 56.

Another hiker discovered his body in a ravine below a trail leading to Inspiration Point in the Angeles National Forest, according to MyFoxLA.com. The preliminary cause of death is trauma sustained from a fall off the steep trail.

Fox’s Gigi Graciette tweeted, “Sad week for our FOX 11 family as we lose friend + colleague Martin Burns in hiking accident.”

“He made a personal difference in my professional life every day,” Fox 11’s VP News Director Kingsley Smith told the network. “Whenever he stopped by to share a story, I saw the deep passion and dedication in his work and projects.”

Medical producer Gerri Shaftel told Fox 11 that Burns went above and beyond the call of duty.

“Martin, an amazing and talented investigative producer, put his life on the line repeatedly to chase stories,” Shaftel said. “He was the guy the rest of us worried about. Martin survived close encounters with flying bullets and cross-border drug wars. I can’t imagine the loss to his son and my colleagues who worked most closely with him. Life is too short.”

Martin was one of the few people I’ve met in my life who was willing to take personal risks in order to do the right thing. He was passionate in his reporting, cared about people, especially children, and contributed more to our society than most will ever realize. Martin will be greatly missed.

Mr Burns interviewed my daughter regarding Cps in Orange County a few months ago. He was genuinely a very nice and compassionate man who was truly concerned about the horrendous stories re CPS. I applaud his hard work and bringing our stories up front and noticed by the public. So many families are coming forward thanks t o him and FOX 11. I just now read the comment from Mike….I completely agree…foul play…that was our first and ONLY thought. The finger should be pointed in one direction one direction only. I am so sad that I believe that is what happened!!!

This was not an accident! As an investigative reporter Martin aggravated many and his most recent exposes on CPS and Child Lost in the System is accountable for Martin’s demise just like GA Senator Nancy Schaeffer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIFQFY-qY8I

The other person is FOX 11 anchor Araksya Karapetyan. They were both at a FOX family function and had this photo taken.
