NBC's 'Deception' dips despite repeats on competition

On a rather mundane Monday that saw CBS airing mostly repeats, Fox drama “The Following” and ABC reality vet “The Bachelor” ruled as the top shows with young adults.

According to preliminary national estimates from Fox, “The Following” averaged a 2.8 rating/7 share in adults 18-49 and 8.7 million viewers overall in the 9 o’clock hour, holding steady week to week and ruling as the night’s top drama in the demo for a seventh straight week. The serial-killer thriller, which was just renewed for a second season, built on its lead-in from “Bones” (2.2/6 in 18-49, 8.2 million viewers overall), which was down slightly from last week.

Fox won the night in 18-49 and total viewers, though it ran second to ABC in the net’s common hours of 8 to 10 p.m.

At ABC, the “Women Tell All” episode of “The Bachelor” averaged a 2.7 rating/7 share in adults 18-49 and 8.4 million viewers overall from 8 to 10 p.m., down slightly from last week but up about 10% from the comparable episode of a year ago; it won both of its hours in 18-49 (including a tie with “The Following” from 9 to 10 p.m.) ahead of its finale next Monday. At 10, a repeat “Castle” did a 1.4/4 in 18-49 and 6.8 million viewers overall.

NBC’s combo of “The Biggest Loser” (2.1/6 in 18-49, 5.9 million viewers overall) and “Deception” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 3.3 million viewers overall) were off a smidge week to week, with the latter rookie drama unable to take advantage of repeats on the competition.

CBS opened with a repeat “How I Met Your Mother” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall) and an original “Rules of Engagement” (2.2/6 in 18-49, 6.9 million viewers overall); while “Rules” was down from last week when it had a firstrun lead-in, it did manage a solid build on the repeat “Mother.” From there, the net went with all repeats: “2 Broke Girls” (1.7/4 in 18-49, 6.4 million viewers overall), “Mike & Molly” (1.7/4 in 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall) and “Hawaii Five-O” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall).

At CW, both “The Carrie Diaries” (0.5/1 in 18-49, 1.2 million viewers overall) and “90210″ (0.3/1 in 18-49, 0.7 million viewers overall) edged up from last week. The former is hoping to get a second-season order from the net, which announced Monday that “90210″ will wrap its run this spring.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 2.5/7; ABC, 2.3/6; NBC, 1.8/5; Univision, 1.7/5; CBS, 1.6/4; CW, 0.4/1.

In total viewers: Fox, 8.4 million; ABC, 7.9 million; CBS, 6.1 million; NBC, 5.0 million; Univision, 4.2 million; CW, 0.9 million.
