Yahoo will spearhead behind-the-scenes Emmy coverage

The TV Academy has inked a one-year deal to make Yahoo its official digital partner for red carpet, backstage and behind-the-scenes coverage surrounding — but not limited to — this year’s Emmys.

Yahoo, which boasts 700 million users worldwide, is the first digital partner for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences that is not affiliated with a broadcaster.

“As television viewing habits evolve and people are consuming content across multiple platforms, it is imperative that the Television Academy meet the demands of the public,” Academy digital veep Maury McIntyre said. “Yahoo is the ideal digital partner with a reach unlike any other to bring (Academy events) to television fans far and wide.”

In addition to streaming live from the red carpet before the Sept. 22 Emmys, Yahoo will present the Academy’s live backstage coverage during the kudofest and report from the Governors Ball afterward. Yahoo will also stream the July 18 nominations announcement.

Post-Emmys, Yahoo will also showcase the Academy’s “An Evening With …” series, featuring panel discussions of prominent TV series.
