‘Doctor Who’ 50th Anniversary Special Gets 3D Release in the U.K.

The Doctor is in — in 3D.

Picturehouse Entertainment and BBC Worldwide have teamed to distribute a 3D version of the 50th anniversary episode of “Doctor Who” to cinemas across the U.K. on Nov. 23, simultaneous with the show’s broadcast on BBC One.

The 75-minute episode, titled “The Day of the Doctor,” stars the 11th Doctor, Matt Smith, his companion, Jenna Coleman, as well as former Time Lord David Tennant, Billie Piper and John Hurt, seen in the cliffhanger series finale earlier this year.

The theatrical release will also include specially shot introductions.

Picturehouse Entertainment is the distribution arm of Picturehouse Cinemas, which owns and operates 21 cinemas across the U.K.

      PBS started showing Doctor Who with the first episode of Tom Baker (Robot) the summer of 1979. I think we were two years behind back then, and it pretty much stayed on target up through Simon McCoy, but the ratings were dying out by then.

    All I want to know is will it be broadcast in 3D on TV also? I.e press the red button to view 3d broadcast on bbc 1? Be mighty annoyed if it isn’t as I just gone and bought a cinema 3DTV!

      Go to fathom events. There will be a 3D theater broadcast, I think on the 25th or 28th. Check BBC america’s facebook for a link
