Disney Channel renews 'Austin & Ally'

Series veraged 2.3 million viewers among kids 2-11 during its second season

Disney Channel has renewed “Austin & Ally,” the most-watched series on TV among kids 2-11 and 9-13, for a third season.

Production will begin in July with an eye toward an October season premiere. “Austin” averaged 2.3 million viewers in the 2-11 demo during its second season.

Ross Lynch and Laura Marano star in the title roles, with Raini Rodriguez and Calum Worthy rounding out the regular cast. Series creators Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert exec produce with Rick Nyholm.

Disney Channel also renewed Debby Ryan starrer “Jessie” for a third season last week. “Good Luck Charlie” returns for its fourth season April 28, followed by the third-season premiere of “A.N.T. Farm” on May 31.

In other Disney news, Salli Frattini and her Sunset Lane Entertainment shingle have signed on to produce the April 27 Radio Disney Music Awards. In 2001, Frattini became the first female exec producer of a Super Bowl halftime show.
