Discovery Touring ‘North America’

Seven-part series explores continent's terrain

Discovery Channel, the net behind “Planet Earth” and “Africa,” is shining light on American viewers’ backyard with seven-part series “North America.”

Project is the result of almost 3,000 days on location in 250 separate expeditions. Over 850 hours of footage has been whittled down to the seven hourlong episodes.

Series covers terrain including the forests of Belize, the snow-capped Rockies, the deserts of the American Southwest and a multitude of ecological niches in between. First five episodes of the skein centers on animals surviving in North America’s rough terrain. Series then introduces a “making of” episode, and the final installment will reveal online voters’ choice for the top natural North American destination on Discovery’s My North America Facebook page.

Cabler will bow the series on Sunday, May 19, at 9 p.m.

Discovery Channel sets the pace when it comes to natural history programming,” said Eileen O’Neill, group prexy of Discovery and TLC Networks. “For this series it made sense to explore the continent many of us call ‘home.’ I’m excited to include ‘North America’ in the ranks of Discovery’s epic natural history programming.”

“North America” is produced for Discovery by Silverback Films with Keit h Scholey serving as exec producer and Huw Cordey as series producer. For the cabler, Christine Weber and Iain Riddick are exec producers.
