'Moonshiners' has been a hit with key male demos on Discovery

Discovery Channel has renewed “Moonshiners” for a third season, and ordered spinoff “Tickle” to series.

From Magilla Entertainment, “Moonshiners” centers on the backwoods brewing of purportedly illegal alcohol in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

Season three is currently lensing.

Tickle, a fan favorite cast member known for his thick southern accent and light-hearted, comedic take on life, will be the focus on the “Moonshiners” spinoff. Discovery ordered 12 halfhour episodes of “Tickle” from Magilla, and plans to bow the program later this year.

“Moonshiners” performed strongly on Discovery with male demos during its sophomore run, standing as the top cable show on Wednesday nights among men 18-49 and men 25-54. The season two finale of “Moonshiners” drew almost 4 million total viewers.

Other programs in the Magilla Entertainment wheelhouse include TLC’s “Long Island Medium,” Travel’s “Burger Land,” and “Bayou Billionaires” on CMT.

Shingle, owned by exec producers Brian Flanagan, Matthew Ostrom and Laura Palumbo Johnson and formed in 2009, currently had 11 presentation pilots in production at cablers including Nat Geo, TruTV, Animal Planet, TLC, Food network and HGTV.
