Dann Florek Departs ‘Law & Order: SVU’

Veteran cast member Dann Florek will be exiting NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” Variety has confirmed.

Florek has logged 14 years playing Captain Donald Cragen on the venerable Dick Wolf procedural, and announced his departure via tweet earlier this week.

While the Peacock is tight-lipped about the details of Cragen’s sendoff, the character’s final episode will air in January.

Florek is the third longtime “SVU” cast member to ankle the series in recent TV seasons. Chris Meloni exited “SVU” in 2011 after a lengthy tenure playing Detective Elliot Stabler, and Richard Belzer announced this year that he would be leaving his role of John Munch. Show star Mariska Hargitay remains aboard the program.

  1. Dawn Kane says:

Coming from a law enforcement ackground have to say he pulled off the “cop attitude”. His character will be missed.

  2. Bryna Weiss says:

Dan Florek has been around as a Chief on more than SVU and his constancy and professionalism is a joy to watch. Good luck, Dan, whatever is next for you.

  3. The Captain will be missed. I noticed recently that there’s a love interest in his life and that Olivia made the Sergeant’s exam. He has been relying on her so I expected some sort of change. Sorry to see him go.
