Bill Weir set to leave ABC News for another job in the industry

Nightline” co-anchor Bill Weir will leave the late–night news staple and be replaced by Dan Harris, ABC News president Ben Sherwood announced in a memo Friday.

Harris joins co-anchors Cynthia McFadden and Dan Abrams as hosts of the program. “Nightline” airs at 12:35 a.m weekdays after being moved from an earlier 11:35 p.m. roost to make way for Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night program.

In the memo, Sherwood said Weir “informed me this week that he is leaving for another opportunity in the news business.” Weir helped to launch the weekend edition of “GMA” in 2004 and was named co-anchor of “Nightline” in 2010.

Harris is expected to continue to co-anchor the weekend edition of “Good Morning America,” which he has done since October 2010. He joined ABC News in 2000.
