‘Cougar’ tame, ‘Justified’ strong in returns

Ex-ABC comedy draws 2.2 million viewers in TBS debut

Former ABC comedy “Cougar Town” got off to a sluggish start on TBS, averaging a 1.1/3 rating in adults 18-49 and 2.18 million viewers overall.

While decent numbers for a cable comedy, “Cougar Town” at 10 p.m. dropped off sharply from its large “The Big Bang Theory” lead-in at 9:30 (1.8/5 in 18-49, 3.78m). Also, TBS has done better of late with series premieres of comedies like last year’s “Men at Work (2.6 million) and “Sullivan and Sons” (2.5 million).

In its final episode on ABC in late May, the Courteney Cox comedy averaged a 1.2/3 in 18-49 and 3.42 million total viewers.

Faring better in its return Tuesday was FX’s “Justified,” which kicked off its fourth season with a 1.3/3 in 18-49 and 3.59 million viewers overall — the show’s second largest aud to date. Head-to-head in the 10 o’clock hour, it beat ABC’s “Private Practice” in 18-49 (1.1) and edged CBS’ “Vegas” in men 18-49 (1.7 to 1.6).
