CBS in Talks for ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Spinoff

How I Met Your Mother

Spinoff would offer a female twist on the 'HIMYM' concept

How I Met Your Mother” fans may not have to part ways with their beloved series at the end of this final season.

Variety has confirmed that CBS is in discussions with 20th Century Fox TV for a spinoff of the comedy, which will offer a femme spin on the original show. As Deadline first reported, spinoff is from “HIMYM” creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas along with Emily Spivey, and is being referred to as “How I Met Your Father.” Project would center on a group of friends living in Gotham and one woman’s quest to meet her future husband.

The concept is not tied to any of the current “HIMYM” characters.

The Eye has received a pitch for the project and is in on-going discussions, but that no deal has been secured yet.

“How I Met Your Mother” returned for its ninth and final season on Sept. 23.

If you are going to do a spin-off of this show it NEEDS to be from the mothers point of view. Fans fell in love with the current characters, what ever new characters you give us will NEVER live up to them. Unless it was from the mothers point of view. Plus it would be great to see more of the mothers personality.

  2. Joe Fiore says:

If Bruce Wayne isn’t a supporting character, don’t set it in Gotham.

  3. Wow the networks are really showing how innovative they are. I wonder how many executives it took and how many meetings it took to come up with this idea.

  4. amulya says:

WTF NO! not in any way interested. you had your time HIMYM don’t stretch it out.

  5. I’m intrigued by the idea. If they really want to be clever with it, the spinoff could actually center around the “mother” that we’re just meeting this season and follow a similar format. the first few episodes could revolve around Barney and Robin’s wedding weekend from her perspective and just before meeting Ted, find some way to go back to show her journey in getting to that point.

Why not? And as a plus, they can keep using that increasingly aging stock footage of David Henrie and Lyndsy Fonseca!!

    • Ryan says:

I don’t know man, do you really want to/need to stretch out this story anymore? It’s gotten a little ridiculous over the past few seasons. I’m pretty sure most people are content with just seeing Ted’s side and putting these characters to rest.

Plus, they said it’s going to be a whole new cast of characters.

  6. Jake says:

Wouldn’t it be more interesting to go with the mothers point of view? Anyways, I’m personally so sick and frustrated with the current show because of all the red herrings and the plots that just keep getting recycled and goes nowhere and I blame the conceit of the show.
