CBS goes back to school with ‘Bad Teacher’

Eye orders Sony TV comedy pilot, Warner Bros. TV drama 'Advocates'

Women are going a little wild in CBS’ latest pilot pickups.

Single-camera comedy “Bad Teacher,” penned by Hilary Winston, is based on the 2011 Cameron Diaz feature about a foul-mouthed divorced woman who becomes a teacher to find a husband. Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky are exec producing the Sony Pictures TV project with Winston, Sam Hansen and Jimmy Miller. “Bad Teacher” marks the second pilot order in as many days for Eisenberg and Stupnitsky, who got a greenlight from ABC for the single-cam comedy “Pulling.”

Drama pilot “The Advocates” revolves around a female lawyer and a male ex-con who skirt the edges of the law to fight for underdogs in their role as victim advocates. Bruno Heller, shepherd of CBS’ “The Mentalist,” wrote the script and exec produces for Warner Bros. TV.
