NBC primetime football returns Sept. 8

NBC has tapped Grammy-winning artist Carrie Underwood to sing the “Sunday Night Football” theme next season.

Underwood will effectively replace Faith Hill, who announced her departure from the primetime NFL broadcast last month.

Underwood should see plenty of airtime on NBC this fall. The country/pop star will also topline a live broadcast of “The Sound of Music” for NBC over the holidays.

Sunday Night Football,” which averaged a primetime-best 21.4 million viewers in 2012, returns Sept. 8.
