LONDON — Lisa Campbell has been tapped as the director of the Edinburgh Intl. Television Festival.
Campbell joins the festival from TV trade magazine Broadcast, where she worked for 10 years and as editor since 2007.
Executive chair Elaine Bedell commented: “It’s fantastic news for the festival that Lisa has been appointed. She’s got a great reputation within the industry and has proved in her six years as editor of Broadcast that she’s unafraid to tackle difficult subjects. She’s full of ideas about the festival’s future, and we can’t wait to start working with her.”
Campbell said: “I’m looking forward to working with the festival to deliver a must-attend event. The TV festival is an incredible event and one that I’ve always wanted to be more involved in. I’m really looking forward to making this year’s festival as confident, insightful and courageous as possible.”
Campbell will be replacing Louise Benson, who will be joining the Cannes Lions Intl. Festival of Creativity as launch director of Lions Health and director of Eurobest, and will take up the role in January 2014.
Bedell has also announced that she will be stepping down after four years in her role as executive chair at the end of the 2014 festival. Bedell will be replaced by Chris Shaw, with whom she worked closely to select the newly appointed festival director.
Shaw has attended the festival since 1991 and has worked on both the advisory and execution committees. He is editorial director of ITN Productions, the program-making arm of ITN, which produces shows including “The Agenda” on ITV, “Dispatches” for Channel 4 and the recent hit series on Harrow for Sky 1.
Shaw has three decades experience in the TV industry as a journalist, producer, manager and commissioning editor. In that time he has held senior editorial roles on ITV News, Five News, Sky News and Channel 4 News, and has commissioned more than a thousand hours of documentary, current affairs and other factual programming as senior program controller at Channel 5.
