‘Boardwalk Empire’ Renewed by HBO for Fifth Season

'Boardwalk Empire' Renewed HBO Fifth Season

HBO has handed a fifth season to period drama “Boardwalk Empire.”

Prohibition-set drama returned for its fourth run on HBO earlier this month, and has averaged a gross audience of 7.5 million viewers this season. Show is created by Terence Winter, who exec produces alongside Martin Scorsese, Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, Tim Van Patten and Howard Korder.

“Thanks to Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Howard Korder and their stellar team, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ remains in a class by itself,” said HBO programming prez Michael Lombardo.  “I look forward to another electrifying season of this impeccably crafted series.”

News arrives after Bobby Cannavale took home the Emmy for supporting actor in a drama for his role on “Boardwalk.”

“Boardwalk Empire” airs Sunday nights on HBO.

This show has easily been the best that TV has to offer. Season four has been near perfection. Great news!

  3. Robert says:

Hopefully the fifth season will be better than the fourth one to date. So far this season it seems to be a burnt-out drama past its prime. All the characters we knew or grew to look forward to weekly are gone either by death or their time was up by writers choice. Lets hope they can get the series back on track!

Agreed. They burned out the method of building up steam towards a worthy climax. Too many characters and too s….l….o….w…. of a pace. Also, the Richard Harrow character is on its last leg.

  5. This may be the best show on TV today. It is truly outstanding; and Steve Buscemi is finally being recognized for the tremendous talent that he is.
