'Voice' panelist spearheaded drive to raise money for tornado victims

NBC has set May 29 for the “Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert” special hosted by “Voice” panelist Blake Shelton to aid victims of the tornadoes that ravaged Oklahoma this week.

Shelton, an Oklahoma native who is currently living in Tishomingo, organized the event that will feature performances by Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire and Vince Gill.

The concert will be held at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City and will also be broadcast by NBC sibling nets Style, E!, G4, Bravo and Viacom’s CMT.

“Everyone has their way to help, and mine as an entertainer is to perform to help raise money and awareness for this tragedy,” Shelton said, who also organized a benefit concert in 2011 in response to tornadoes that struck his home state.

Proceeds from the May 29 telecast will go to  the United Way of Central Oklahoma May Tornadoes Relief Fund and their local community partners, United Way of Central Oklahoma.
