Bettye McCartt, Agent for Tom Selleck, Dies at 81

Bettye McCartt Obit

Bettye McCartt, the longtime agent-manager for actor Tom Selleck and TV director Tony Wharmby, died of heart failure on Friday, Aug. 16, in Santa Barbara, Calif. She was 81.

McCartt was owner of Agency for Artists and a partner in McCartt, Oreck & Barrett Talent Agency; her former clients included George Clooney, Billy D. Williams, Brian Austin Green, Louis L’Amour, Henry Miller, Maureen O. Hara and Anthony Quinn.

In the 1960s, Bettye moved from Oklahoma to Los Angeles, where she started a long career in the entertainment business, first as a publicist at 20th Century Fox. She was also associated with the production of “The Godfather” and “The Longest Yard,” among other films.

McCartt is survived by her daughter, Shannon Alton, and son, Mark Breeding.

Plans for a memorial service in Los Angeles are pending.
