The 90-minute film, “Stan and Ollie,” tells the story of the duo’s 1953 U.K. tour at the end of their careers. The tour ended in disaster when Oliver Hardy suffered a heart attack.
The film is produced by the BBC’s in-house comedy department, BBC Worldwide and Lookout Point. Exec producers are Saurabh Kakkar for the BBC, Simon Vaughan for Lookout Point and Harvey Weinstein for The Weinstein Company.
Cast will be confirmed at a later date.
“This is the perfect BBC/Weinstein collaboration — a British drama with Hollywood DNA. Harvey’s talent relationships will help us bring this to the screen with huge ambition,” Vaughan said.
The pic was commissioned by Shane Allen, controller of BBC comedy commissioning, and Danny Cohen as former controller of BBC One.
