Martin recently earned a Tony for her work in 'Pippin'

Comedy and legit vet Andrea Martin has been tapped to star in Global TV’s new halfhour laffer “Working the Engels.”

From Shaw Media and Halfire-CORE Entertainment, series centers on Martin’s character Ceil Engel, an overly confident matriarch who mixes momma bear love and myopic self-involvement.

“I am so looking forward to shooting another TV series in Canada and working with Katie and Jane Ford,” Martin said. “And to get to stay in Toronto for an extended period is icing on the cake.”

A decorated member of the theater world, Martin recently won a Tony for her performance in the legit production of “Pippin.” She is an alum of Canadian sketch comedy series “SCTV,” has won two Emmys, and recently appeared in “30 Rock” and “Nurse Jackie.”

“Andrea is a living legend, a consummate pro and, of course, a brilliant comedian,” said Noreen Halpern, prez of Halfire-CORE. “Casting Andrea is a huge coup for us, which only adds to the international appeal of this series.”

Katie and Jane Ford, Howard Busgang, Tom Nursall and Halpern serve as exec producers on “Working the Engels.”
