Anderson Cooper has renewed his contract with CNN through the 2016 presidential election, giving the Time Warner-owned cable network some stability in primetime as it continues to work to shore up that time period.

Cooper is arguably the linchpin of the cable-news outlet’s primetime schedule, hosting both “Anderson Cooper 360″ at 8 p.m. as well as the roundtable-focused “AC360 Later” at 10 p.m. The first program has seen a rise in ratings this year, though it regularly finishes well behind “The O’Reilly Factor’ on Fox News Channel at 10 p.m. CNN has been in the midst of transforming its programming since the arrival of CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker earlier this year.

Cooper is also a regular contributor to CBS’ “60 Minutes.”
