Alfonso named VP of drama development at ABC Studios

Exec arrives from ESPN, where he helped launch global programs

Juan Jose Alfonso has been named VP of drama development at ABC Studios.

Exec arrives from Disney-owned ESPN, where he was VP of program development. At the sports cabler Alfonso responsible for the creation and production of new content ideas for ESPN platforms around the world.

He was a driving force behind “El Diez,” which was ESPN Intl.’s first-ever scripted series, as well as several docs. His move to ABC reps a way for the studio to become more global in its series development and to think outside of traditional means when it comes to launching new programs.

Alfonso will report to Michael McDonald, the senior VP of drama development.
